This will be a 5-hour float trip on the Tallapoosa River near Tallapoosa, GA. This portion of the river has a slight current with several shoals but no major rapids. We will be utilizing the services of Lazy River Rentals for this trip.
Lazy River Rentals offers rental boats and a shuttle service at the following rates: $25.00 for single person kayaks, $45.00 for double person kayaks, and $10.00 to shuttle private boats. They will put us in at the Broad Street Bridge in Tallapoosa and we will float to their takeout located at 131 Doe Valley Road south of US Hwy 78 near the AL/GA state line.
The shuttle for this trip leaves the outfitter at 9:00 am (cst) / 10:00 am (est). Participants are encouraged to pack a lunch with something to drink, wear clothing/footwear suitable for water activities, and to use sunscreen. The meeting time and location for this trip will be 8:00 am (cst) from the Publix parking lot located across from the Oxford Exchange adjacent to Exit 188 on I-20 and US Hwy 78. Those wishing to meet directly at the outfitter should arrive there no later than 8:45 am (cst) / 9:45 am (est).
Participants should contact Keith Hudson by Monday, June 20 to register for this trip. When registering, indicate if you will need to rent a boat or will just need a shuttle for your personal boat. Please do not contact the outfitter directly as they have requested that participants register through Keith who will give them a headcount following the registration deadline. Keith may be reached by email at email@example.com or by phone or text at (256) 453-9527.
This will be a time of fellowship and will include hotdogs, fixings, chips and drinks provided by the AOA along with a homemade ice cream competition! All those who still make homemade ice cream are encouraged to participate and compete for a small prize!
This event will begin at 5:00 pm at the Tucker Park Lodge located at 6514 Weaver Road in Anniston. Please contact Keith Hudson by Thursday, June 16 to register for this event. Keith may be reached by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone or text at (256) 453-9527. There will be a $5.00 charge for non-members to help off-set the cost of the provided food.
This will be an approximately 20 mile total, out and back ride beginning at the Borden Springs Access. We will travel along the Chief Ladiga Trail to the Georgia state line about 5 miles away where the Silver Comet Trail begins and then we will ride about another 5 miles into Georgia before returning.
These trails are paved “Rails to Trails,” so they have very little incline. Helmets are required for bikers on this trail.
The meeting time and location for this outing will be 8:00 am at the Borden Springs Access just off Cleburne County 70 (Vigo Road). Going east on 70 from Piedmont, turn right on County Road 225/230 and the trail parking lot is immediately on the right.
For more information and to register your participation, contact Mike Martin by email at email@example.com or by phone or text at (256) 239-2123.
