Main Street Anniston invites you to join the Anniston Fire Department and the Anniston Police Department as they go head to head in a charitable basketball game.

Admission is $5 at the door and all proceeds benefit the Anniston City Schools Annual Back to School Bash!

Doors open at the Anniston Aquatic Center at 11am. We will have the concession stand operating so bring some extra cash for hotdogs and drinks.

Don’t forget to support your favorite team by wearing RED for Anniston Fire and BLUE for Anniston Police!

5th annual Spring Garden Symposium Engaging with Plant People: The Breeders, the Explorers, & the Collectors

Join us for Longleaf Botanical Gardens’ 5th annual Spring Garden Symposium! There’s something old, something new, something borrowed, and something in bloom during this year’s symposium! Engage with fellow plant people and discover plants only available from another person’s garden, where to get the greatest and latest plants, and what’s new in the world of horticulture. This year’s Keynote Speaker is the renowned Encore Azalea Breeder, Mr. Buddy Lee. We also have Atlanta Botanical Gardens’ Horticulturist, Ozzie Johnson, and special guests from the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. Explore the Sensory Garden and shop plant vendors and talented craftspeople between presentations!

Lunch is not included if registering after March 8. Complimentary coffee will be available until 10:00 am. Tickets are $45 per person. Anniston Museums and Gardens members receive a $10 discount. Berman Book Club

Each month we will enjoy stimulating conversation and view artifacts from the Berman collection that directly relate to that month’s book. History comes to life when we learn the stories behind the events; it’s anything but boring!

How does this relate to the Civil Rights Movement in Alabama? On Eagle’s Wings: The Amazing World of Eagles Guest Speaker: Mandy Pearson, CSP Naturalist

Have you ever wondered what makes an eagle so majestic? With their razor-sharp beaks, piercing talons, and carnivorous diet, eagles are the fiercest predators in the Alabama skies. This powerful bird of prey has inspired birders, scientists, and society for centuries! Join guest speaker Cheaha State Park Naturalist, Mandy Pearson, as she teaches about these incredible creatures and their important role in our ecosystem. You will even have a chance to meet a live bird of prey!

43rd annual Heritage Festival: 43 Years of Poetry Celebration

This February, we invite the community to the 43rd annual Heritage Festival! Celebrate Black History Month with us all day by encouraging our community’s youth during the oration competition, enjoying a special choir performance, shopping African-inspired vendors, and touring the Anniston Museum of Natural History and Berman Museum! Festival Coordinator Georgia Calhoun declared this year’s theme as 43 Years of Poetry Celebration. Food vendors will be on-site with delicious food options available for purchase. This community event is perfect for people of all ages!

Register your child to compete in the 43rd annual Heritage Festival Oration Competition. Download the registration form and email it to swoolmaker@annistonal.gov or visit Anniston Museum of Natural History. This special event provides children from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 the opportunity to develop public speaking skills and strengthen their love for reading, writing, and poetry. Review the Oration Competition Application for details. Registration forms are due by end of day Saturday, February 11, 2023. All oration competition participants receive $10.00, a participation ribbon, and a one-year Family Membership to the Anniston Museums and Gardens. Monetary prizes and ribbons are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place of each category during the Awards Ceremony.
