About the Project:
Dr. David Satcher, M.D., Ph.D., the 16th Surgeon General of the United States and former Secretary for Health in the Department of Health and Human Services, proudly lends his name to this remarkable endeavor. Dr. Satcher’s legacy in public service includes his tenure as Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 1993 to 1998. As a former four-star admiral in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, he is renowned for championing healthy lifestyles and striving to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in health.
We are honored to pay tribute to Dr. Satcher, right here in his hometown of Anniston, Alabama, by affixing his name to this uplifting facility. This community clinic and learning center will embody the principles of equitable and accessible healthcare services that Dr. Satcher is passionately dedicated to advancing. In partnership with St. Michael’s Medical Clinic and Regional Medical Center (RMC) Health Systems, the Dr. David Satcher and St. Michael’s Clinic and Community Learning Center will be devoted to enhancing healthcare access for low-income and uninsured residents of Calhoun County.
St. Michael’s Medical Clinic’s unwavering commitment to inclusivity and compassionate care shines through in this project. With their move into the new Dr. David Satcher and St. Michael’s Clinic and Community Learning Center, their mission expands, as they will now be able to offer even more essential healthcare services. In tandem with the expertise and support provided by Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center (RMC), the leading regional healthcare provider for a five-county service area in northeast Alabama, the impact of this new community clinic will be felt far and wide on Monday, November 6, 2023!
