Spring Break in Anniston! (2023)

Our Parks & Recreation Department (PARD) has a full slate of fun activities, games, and more planned for Spring Break week! So, be sure to share the attached flier with anyone looking for some spring time fun for their children!

During this week, all centers will be closed from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, except the center that is hosting that day’s activities and the Aquatic Center.All centers will reopen from 4:15 PM to 7:00 PM each day for free play and other activities as planned.

Something To Do Sunday at Wiggins! (3/19/23)

Something To Do Sundays are back! A local favorite, every 3rd Sunday we will set up shop at one of our centers or out in the community and provide the youth with educational fun, games, activities, and structure!
This month, we will be at the Wiggins Community Center (2202 W. 17th Street, Anniston, AL 36201) on Sunday, March 19, 2023 (03/19/23) from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM!
Our Something To Do days started with concerned community citizens coming together on one accord to offer our deserving youth a structured, yet fun-filled opportunity to play and learn!
Be sure to bring your most recent Report Card! Rewards will be given to A & B Students!

2023 Heritage Festival!

2023 Heritage Festival! | 06/24/23 | Zinn Park
We are excited to announce that multi-platinum R&B group, Silk, will headline this year’s Anniston Heritage Festival! Stay tuned for more announcements about this year’s festival because more fun is to come!
The festival will kick-off at 2:00 PM with vendors, games, and activities. Music will then hit the stage at 4:00 PM! Tents are allowed in designated areas, but please do not bring personal grills or generators.
The Heritage Festival is a free, family oriented event that celebrates Juneteenth! It is designed to provide a safe and fun-filled day for citizens of all ages and cultures. There will be entertainment, games for youth, food vendors, arts & crafts, and more!

Wiggins Center Fun Road Ride Challenge! (2023)

Wiggins Center – Fun Road Ride Challenge!
The Fun Road Ride Challenge is a mile and a half street ride that includes: straights, inclines, and curves for your riding enjoyment! Upon the completion of the course ride, we (the WCC Riders) will invite everyone to try out our new bike trail ride at no additional cost! So, grab your bikes and gear up for a fun Saturday bike riding challenge! Concessions will be open, so stop by the stand for a favorite tasty treat!
– WHEN: Saturday, March 25th at 10:00 AM
– DETAILS: Registration begins at 9:00 AM
– COST: per rider $5 (can pay at event)

43rd annual Heritage Festival: 43 Years of Poetry Celebration

This February, we invite the community to the 43rd annual Heritage Festival! Celebrate Black History Month with us all day by encouraging our community’s youth during the oration competition, enjoying a special choir performance, shopping African-inspired vendors, and touring the Anniston Museum of Natural History and Berman Museum! Festival Coordinator Georgia Calhoun declared this year’s theme as 43 Years of Poetry Celebration. Food vendors will be on-site with delicious food options available for purchase. This community event is perfect for people of all ages!
Register your child to compete in the 43rd annual Heritage Festival Oration Competition. Download the registration form and email it to swoolmaker@annistonal.gov or visit Anniston Museum of Natural History. This special event provides children from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 the opportunity to develop public speaking skills and strengthen their love for reading, writing, and poetry. Review the Oration Competition Application for details. Registration forms are due by end of day Saturday, February 11, 2023. All oration competition participants receive $10.00, a participation ribbon, and a one-year Family Membership to the Anniston Museums and Gardens. Monetary prizes and ribbons are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place of each category during the Awards Ceremony.

Wild About You! Family Valentine’s Dance

We are WILD ABOUT YOU at the Anniston Museums and Gardens! Celebrate Valentine’s Day with us on Friday, February 10, from 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm. Enjoy a fun family night filled with dancing, singing, sweets, and more! Chow down on pizza, chicken fingers, fruits and veggies, and satisfy your sweet tooth. Music will be provided by Acosta Entertainment. Anniston Museum of Natural History’s exhibit halls will be open, so you can Explore Your World, meet live animal ambassadors, and make new museum memories!

21st Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast & Youth Participation Day!

We hope that everyone will join us at the Anniston City Meeting Center (1615 Noble Street, Anniston, AL 36201) at 9:00 AM on Monday, January 16, 2023 as we celebrate the life, legacy, and lasting impact of Dr. King through our MLK Breakfast & Youth Participation Day!
This year’s theme is: “Never Lose Hope!” Our guest speaker will be Saks High School Graduate, Kimberly Houzah.
All city and county school students are invited to participate in this event and the school with the most participation will be given an award!

All registered volunteers will need to be present at the Anniston Meeting Center at 8:00 AM. There will be a sign-in table for all participating city and county school students.

Carver Center’s 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off!

Carver Community Center’s 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off is scheduled for Saturday, January 14, 2023 starting at 1PM and ending at 3PM inside the gymnasium. To sample all chili, the cost is $2. To purchase a bowl of chili, the cost is $5.
If you would like to be a chili contestant please contact Carver Community Center at 256-231-7630 and ask for Recreation Leader Derwin Perry by Monday, January 9th.
All contestants must meet at Carver Community Center on Monday, January 9th at 6:00 PM for an informational meeting. Judges will vote for the best chili.

7th Annual Judkins Family Christmas BBQ!

The 7th Annual Judkins Family Christmas BBQ will take place on Sunday, December 25, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the Carver Community Center (720 W. 14th Street, Anniston, AL 36201)!
There will be free food, fellowship, and music from acts such as N2 Christ & Mary Culpepper Community Choir!
