Falconry: Then and Now

Falconry is an ancient sport in which falcons or hawks are used to hunt game. It became popular during the Middle Ages among the privileged class in Western Europe and Britain and continues today with modern falconry. Join the Berman Museum and licensed falconers, Shari Rettig and John Brunson, to learn how the sport evolved over hundreds of years, and why falconry is beneficial for wildlife management and conservation.

Learn, Grow, Eat, and Go!

Join Alabama Cooperative Extension Agent, Tammy Hall each Wednesday for Learn, Grow, Eat, and Go! Learn, Grow, Eat, and Go! (LGEG) is the research and evidence-based curriculum project of the Junior Master Gardener Program that combines academic achievement, gardening, nutrient-dense food experiences, physical activity, and family engagement. This linear set of hands-on, proven lessons, will help students better understand plants and how plants provide for people’s needs. The curriculum features opportunities for the students to participate in fresh vegetable tastings/evaluations, simple recipe demos, and physical activities that research shows can improve on-task behavior and academic performance.
This program is designed for rising 3rd – 5th grade students. Pre-registration recommended.

HerpFest: Celebration of Reptiles and Amphibians

It is time to celebrate and appreciate our slimy, scaly friends! Herp Fest 2023 will be at the Longleaf Event Center with fun for the entire family. Enjoy face painting, family-friendly crafts and interactives, including reptile and amphibian-themed presentations, and live animals. Joining us this year are Alabama Herpetological Society, Jacksonville State University, Cheaha State Park, Cook Museum, and Birmingham Zoo, just to name a few! During the event, food trucks will be onsite for delicious snacks and lunch. This event offers guests of all ages the opportunity to learn more about our slimy and scaly friends!

While you are here, enjoy all that the Anniston Museums and Gardens has to offer! The Anniston Museum of Natural History and the Berman Museum will be joining in on the fun with herp-related scavenger hunts and artifact displays.

Insect Pinning Workshop: Butterfly and Moth

Would you like to begin or add to your own insect collection? Join one of our Educational Interpreters to learn how to pin and label a butterfly and a moth like a pro. This program is available for ages 10 and up. Pre-registration is required. Limited to 15 people.
