Wiggins Center - Fun Road Ride Challenge!

The Fun Road Ride Challenge is a mile and a half street ride that includes: straights, inclines, and curves for your riding enjoyment! Upon the completion of the course ride, we (the WCC Riders) will invite everyone to try out our new bike trail ride at no additional cost! So, grab your bikes and gear up for a fun Saturday bike riding challenge! Concessions will be open, so stop by the stand for a favorite tasty treat! Our Programs:

  • Wiggins Community Center Riders – Bike Club
    • Riders meet on Thursdays for  training and fun rides on the bike trail and the grounds with a few obstacles in preparation for competition.  Many learned to ride without training wheels through this program.  Fun for all ages as we plan for youth  rides in various places and plan our own Fun – Five Ride for the Spring.

 

  • Engineering/STEM Camp  
    • Program meets once monthly (Saturdays) for students to learn how to follow instructions to build electrical items.  Introduce the basic instructions to various aspects of engineering.  First session = November 12th   No charge to students. Registration will open soon.

 

  • Models in Motion
    • This program will teach youth the basic fundamentals of modeling.  After the instructional program ends, the models will serve as models for our annual Fashion Ball.  Call or email Carol Bush @ 256 231-7628 or cbush@annistonal.gov

 

  • Travel Track and Field
    • Athletes will travel various places in the United States to compete.  Enhances opportunities for recruitment for colleges and other associations.  Registration open now, drills begin Monday, September 12th @ 4:30 p.m.

 

  • Youth Stars
    • Youth group of teens and young adults to serve in a community-based service group that aides in multiple functions.  Travel included.  This is a community service group as well.  Continuous program, call or email Carol Bush  256 231-7628 or cbush@annistonal.gov

 

  • Pre-season basketball tournament for free players
    • Get your ballers together and complete a roster to compete in double-elimination tournament.  $5 per player with a limit of 10 players per roster.  Saturday, December 10th – first game at noon.  Door admission $3 per person.  Rosters online or at center, email Carol Bush @ cbush@annistonal.gov

 

  • Business/Budgeting Class
    • Offered to all teenager to young adults.  Must be 10 years old to register.  $2 per class.  Classes are 11 & 13 @ 5:00 6:15

 

  • Tumbling
    • Participants will learn the basic fundamentals to tumbling as an introduction to gymnastics.  Register online or at center.  January 17 & 19th

 

  • Volleyball Camp 
    • Participants will learn the basic fundamentals to volleyball.  This will include passing, hitting, and digging drills.  Much fun and excitement especially for those who intend to pursue the sport in middle or high school.  Registration online or Wiggins Center 256 231-7628

 

  • Softball Training
    • Participants will enjoy learning and performing skill drills to enhance to ability to play the game.  Hitting, catching, throwing and various techniques will be taught.  April 11 & 13th.  Register online or at center.  256 231-7628 or cbush@annistonal.gov

 

  • Basic Sewing Classes
    • Registered participants will learn how to repair/mend basic issues in clothing, etc. Replacing lost buttons, hemming, zippers, tears, rips, etc.
      • February 1st (4:30 – 5:30)

 

  • Decorating and Serving
    • Young ladies and gentlemen will learn how to set up for various functions and how and what type of decoration to use for theme parties.  Skills will be practiced at center as functions are requested.  This is a continuous program.  Children will be notified when there is a session or a class offered.

 

  • Tutoring
    • Many students are embarrassed to share their inabilities to read or comprehend reading effectively.  They also will not ask for help in Reading and Math in which many are challenged in this area.  For a small fee, parents can schedule tutoring sessions for their students as needed based upon the duration of sessions and the number of days requested.  We welcome your calls or inquiries now.

  • Etiquette Training
    • Participants will be taught the proper etiquette for different settings.  Many of our youth have no knowledge of how to speak respectfully and with proper skills and expressions.  Skills have deteriorated due to slang and technology usage.  Proper grammar, writing and speaking skills must be re-introduced in our youth and young adults.  Registration online or come by center.

 

  • Stage Play
    • Everyone will participate in a stage play with a much needed spin on topics and issues that we/youth are faced with today. This play is designed to help everyone to see the world through the eyes of our youth; which is dealing with many and multiple issues daily.   • Computer Club
    • Students do research on various topics individual and in a group setting.  They also conduct open-forum discussions on those topics.  After the discussions (forum) is complete, then those topics are included in the stage play for all to see.  We have a partnership with Auburn University for this group.  Frequently, the students are required to attend classes at Auburn.  They are transformed from Elementary and or Middle school students to college student for the day.  Must dress accordingly.  Students are chosen for participation in this program.  I welcome interested people.  Be sure to call or come by the center.  256 231-7628

 

  • Community Yard / Barbecue Sale
    • Interested parties are welcome to register online or come by the center.  Each interested entity should register and pay $30 per table.  We will designate a space for you at the center.  You are welcomed to display your items for sale and conduct your business for the day.  Of course, all sale items cannot be any alcoholic beverages or anything illegal.  Clothing, shoes, eatables, etc.  Whatever you wish to sell; set it up on your table and let’s enjoy our day.  Barbeque sandwiches and plates will be available for purchase.  If there are any questions or concerns, please call 256 231-7628 or email cbush@annistonal.gov.
