2024 Redistricting

Floodplain Administration

The engineering department currently has two Certified Floodplain Managers (CFM) that manage construction within the floodplain of the city of Anniston. The city of Anniston became a member of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) in 1983 in order to lower the insurance rates for residents and business. The chief responsibility of the CFM is to regulate construction within the Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHA) determined by FEMA in accordance with the Anniston Municipal Code concerning floodplain ordinances . The engineering department maintains old NFIP maps and records as well as flood elevation certificates. The city of Anniston is currently operating under the 2007 version of maps but new maps will be in effect around December of 2015. The new maps reflect updated drainage study information obtained by FEMA as well as upgrade in digital elevation models. A list of 2007 SFHA properties is listed below. The city will mail out all properties that will affected by the 2015 map changes.
