Garbage Fee Exemption Policy
 
All accounts must be paid up to date before an exemption will be granted. This includes any previous balances from a previous location.  A garbage exemption can only be granted for the property at which you reside.  An exemption will only be granted if the applicant’s name and the name that shows on the bill is the same.
Applications for exemptions will now be taken only once a year in the month of May for people currently exempt. New applications will be accepted throughout the year if you meet the qualifications for the program. The application can be mailed in or brought to City Hall during normal business hours.  All applications must be turned in with all documents necessary to grant an exemption.  You must submit all paperwork no later than May 31st or you will be subject to pay any balance on your account that is due when you submit your application. You will be able to download a copy of the exemption application from our web site www.annistonal.gov (Place mouse over ‘Departments’ and select ‘Garbage Fee Exemption’ from the drop down) or you can pick up an application at City Hall, 1128 Gurnee Ave.
Documents Needed:
 
  1. Proof of all sources of income for everyone in the household
  2. Copies of all Social Security cards for everyone in the household
Once received application and all requested documents, the Finance Dept. will review the application and either grant the exemption or reject the application.  If application is rejected, you will receive a letter from the City stating why.  All paper work must be for the current year.
Income That Must Be Reported:
Social Security, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Veteran’s Pension Income (VA), Child Support, Rental Property, ADC, FDC, Retirement Pay, Pension Pay, and Job Income.
